Budget Modern: Mono Green Stompy

I like stompy decks. That’s no secret. Mono green stompy was a deck in Standard like six years ago and I want it back. Now this isn’t going to be Grand Prix worthy. Not by a long shot. But it could be fun at FNM.

Remember Dungrove Elder? That and Rancor is literally why I’m making this list today.

Basically, you want to start with a mana dork, play Dungrove turn two, then put Rancor on it while playing more forests. If that doesn’t work you have other good green creatures too. Like Strangleroot Geist.

The original Standard version also played a couple Swords last I checked but those are expensive and this is a budget deck. Being that this is meant to be a budget deck I’m not adding $40 cards to the list.

Since this is Modern, we also get some new pump spells. Like Might of Old Krosa and Mutagenic Growth. At this point you might be thinking “If we’re playing these kinds of pumps shouldn’t we just play Infect instead?”. Yeah probably but Infect is expensive and also doesn’t play Dungrove Elder.

Here’s my rough draft of a list of budget Modern Stompy:

4 Birds of Paradise
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Dungrove Elder
4 Kitchen Finks
2 Thrun, the Last Troll
2 Acidic Slime

4 Giant Growth
4 Might of Old Krosa
4 Mutagenic Growth
4 Rancor

20 Forest
